With a butterfly home you can attract butterflies in the summer and also give them a secure place to hibernate in during the winter. This butterfly home gives good shelter against wind, rain and cold.

Butterflies like to stay in warm and protected environments. Rough bark and branches is a good start to furnish the home with, and you can even put in some butterfly-friendly plants. The home can be filled completely, but remember to keep it airy, so there are places between the bark and sticks for the butterflies to crawl into and hibernate or lay their eggs or both.

Place this butterfly home on the south side, roughly 1 metre above the ground, in a place that is as wind-free as possible. The butterfly home can be attached to a wall, a tree, or a pole, preferably near nectar-rich plants. During the winter you can very carefully attempt to move the home and keep it in a shed or outhouse.

Tip! Butterfly larvae are, for the most part, herbivores and only eat from a few plant types. When you learn which type of plants the butterflies in your area eat, plant one near the home.
